Khadija Ismayil's case mentioned at the European Parliament
During the discussion at the European Parliament on September 10, Khadija Ismayil, as well as cases of Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus were brought to the attention of the parliament members.
MEPs called for, "immediate and unconditional release from jail of all political prisoners, human rights defenders, journalists and other civil society activists, including Khadija Ismayilova, Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus, in line with the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights and / or a prompt investigation into the death of the journalist Rasim Aliyev."
Two days before, on September 8 in Geneva, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein condemned the ongoing crackdown on civil society and independent voices in Azerbaijan also mentioning the case of Khadija Ismayil.
"Ms. Ismayilova's sentencing is just the latest example of the crackdown on independent voices in the country. Azerbaijani authorities have already jailed a number of other journalists, human rights defenders and activists, including Leyla and Arif Yunus, Intigam Aliyev, Anar Mammadli, Rasu Jafarov on different questionable charges", said Zeid.
Human Rights Freedoms online platform reports that the European Court of Human Rights accepted a complaint of Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismayilova and that the Azerbaijani government is obliged to answer the questions of the ECHR by January 15, 2016.
Fariz Namazly, Khadija Ismayil's lawyer said the complaint is looking at the violation of Ismayilova's rights under Article 5 (right to liberty and security), Article (objective trial); Article 10 (freedom of expression) and Article 18 (inadmissibility of exceeding the limits prescribed by the Convention of restrictions on rights) of the Convention.
do we really care about #pressfreedom and good reporting or are journalists risking life for nothing http://t.co/JQ0ixIknBZ #KhadijaIsmayil

Khadija Ismayil sends a message from prison
If they ask me how I feel about the sentence "It is worth it!" I am jailed because of truth. And the right of people to free and prosperous life, and to know the truth is worth much more. What is a 7 1/2 year sentence? It does not frighten me. You should not be scared either. I am so much wealthier than all the corrupt men and women I have written about. Because I have values for which I am ready to even sacrifice my life.
