The Apartment Of AzadliqRadiosu Journalist Searched

Islam Shikhali

Police in Baku searched the apartment of AzadliqRadiosu reporter Islam Shikhali. The court order presented at the time of the search, was related to appropriation and tax evasion.

During the search, Shikhali's personal computer, camera, microphone, mobile phone, bank receipts and some other documents were confiscated.

While his identification card, military service card were returned, his passport is still at the grave crimes unit.

Shikhali himself was absent during the search. Police searched the apartment in the presence of Orkhan Rustamzade, a friend who was taken to the police after the search for questioning.

Rustamzade was asked questions about work, salary and so on. Police was also interested in Meydan TV and the events in Mingachevir, which were widely covered by Meydan TV and AzadliqRadiosu.

Police informed Rustamzade that Shikhali must come to the grave crimes unit on September 28 for questioning.

In December of last year, police searched the office of AzadliqRadioasu in Baku and later sealed it shut. Then, police informed the AzadliqRadiosu team there were reports the radio was involved in suspicious bank transactions.

Its former bureau chief and the host of daily radio show Khadija Ismayil was arrested on December 5 and sentenced in September 2015 to 7.5 years. She was charged with appropriation, tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship, and abuse of authority.
