RFE/RL editor in chief and co-CEO Nenad Pejic statement on the raid at Azadliq Radio local Bureau
"The raiding of our Baku bureau is a flagrant violation of every international commitment and standard Azerbaijan has pledged to uphold. The order comes from the top as retaliation for our reporting and as a thuggish effort to silence RFE/RL.This is not the first time that a regime has sought to silence us, and we will continue our work to support Azeris' basic right of free access to information and to report the news to audiences that need it."
Azadliq Radio might be sealed off
The decision was announced by the investigator Senan Pashayev. Pashayev refused to explain the reasons for the search of the possible sealing.
Pashayev also refused to present the radio staff with the official document and the decision to seal off the office. In order to protect himself, Pasayev called in police officers.
